5 MARIAH NOT THE QUEEN OF CHRISTMAS
Her song All I Want for Christmas might rule our airways over the festive season, but MARIAH CAREY’s attempt to trademark the phrase the “Queen of Christmas” has been shot down. The 52-year-old singer filed a trademark request last year requesting exclusive rights to use the phrase, as well as Princess of Christmas and QOC, for a range of products. This did not go down well with American festive singer Elizabeth Chan who creates music specifically for Christmas and Thanksgiving. “My goal in taking on this fight was to stand up to trademark bullying, not just to protect myself but also to protect future Queens of Christmas,” Chan said after
successfully blocking Mariah’s appeal.
