Behind the scenes of the TV show
It was hectic on the set of VIA’s Jy Het ’n Wenresep! but there were also plenty of fun moments. Take a look . . .
SHE’S NOT ONLY A GOOD COOK
Carmen helps contestant Juanita Loubser with a quick make-up touch-up between takes on set.
HAVE A LAUGH
Cathy Jonas, who had everyone in stitches with her witty comments during the filming of Episode 1, said the left-handed Carmen Niehaus looked so “awkward” working in the kitchen.
The contestants were on set in Stellenbosch until 10.30 pm and the winner, Rudolph Shepherd, still had to drive home to Vredenburg – that’s about a two-hour trip!
ABOVE: Time flies on set but once the cooking is done, there’s time for a quick breather for Carmen and stylist Anel Potgieter.
BELOW: A surprised Isabella Niehaus can’t believe she is the winner of Episode 2 – Carmen loved her spinach and feta quiches. Here she is with fellow contestants Jaco Muller and Hanli Uys.
Annelien Pienaar helps Carmen to make a roti with a chapati stick. Seated far right are Daleen van Schalkwyk (left) and Sumara van Eyssen.
COOL AND CALM
BELOW: Mechatronic engineering student Marietjie Jansen van Rensburg had an exam the day after her cooking session but took a moment to relax on the stoep after making her delicious pie.
THAT RED BOOK
ABOVE: Antoinette Spangenberg makes her dish while Carmen makes notes in her special red book.
ON A HIGH NOTE
BELOW: There was no way Carmen was going to let episode winner and singer Mabet van Wyk leave without a song.
LEFT: Contestants Anita van Rensburg (left) and Cindy Joubert have a good laugh during the tasting sessions.
AH, THAT’S BETTER!
FAR LEFT: Carmen kicked off her high heels for a more comfortable walk-and-talk session in front of the camera. The cameraman is Tiaan Taljaard.
TIME TO IMPROVISE
The first season was shot at Spier wine farm and the deadline was tight for this episode as a big function was scheduled for that evening. The crew also had to deal with a power failure! The only solution was to have the tasting sessions on the stoep, where, as it turned out, the lighting was great. Carmen and Ilse Mostert chat about her dish while contestants Elaine Steyn (left) and Anida van der Spuy watch.
