Eczema is the most common skin problem amongst underfives. Caused by an allergic reaction to something in the child’s environment, such as pollen, chlorine, washing detergents or other chemicals in the household. It can also be due to allergies.
Dry, itchy skin patches. Skin may become infected through scratching.
Eliminate cause of the allergic reaction, if possible.
Keep skin moisturised and do not scratch.
Antihistamines and steroid creams may be prescribed.
