Your Baby & Toddler - - Contents - HELEN SCHÖER

Recently I had the privilege of attending a magazine conference with speakers from all over the world. It was wonderful to have access to some of the best brains in the business. Of course, being first and foremost a journalist, I took furious notes and asked questions, but I held back a bit from asking one burning question, because it doesn’t have much to do with media, but is something I always wonder about when I meet brilliant, enthusiastic, confident people.

The question? What did your parents do to raise such a happy, positive, successful person?

When journalists get together they often talk about who would be the ultimate person to interview. Of course, rather predictably, a certain Benoni-bred star’s name pops up. I have no desire to interview onse Charlize, but what I wouldn’t give to interview her mother! In spite of a very difficult family situation (come on, we all know about it) Gerda raised a bright, talented, confident daughter who shines on the world stage. Maybe I should send the Therons this page to get a foot in the door... In the meantime, please enjoy this issue of Your Baby, where countless experts in various aspects of parenting share their advice. And if you’re fortunate enough to be travelling for the holidays, please stay safe.

Until next year!
