Your tod­dler’s awake times are very dif­fer­ent to those of a baby. Here’s a quick guide:

ONE TO TWO YEARS: three to four hours at a time TWO TO THREE YEARS: four to five hours at a time THREE TO FIVE YEARS: five to seven hours at a time You’ll no­tice your baby is over­tired when she shows th­ese signs: • Loss of eye con­tact • Whin­ing and dif­fi­cult be­hav­ior • De­mand­ing a dummy or bot­tle to suck • Fid­get­ing • Nose pick­ing, play­ing with nappy area • Tantrum throw­ing • Bit­ing or push­ing other chil­dren When this hap­pens you should: • Get to know your child’s unique per­son­al­ity • Have pre­dictabil­ity and rou­tine to your day – try to be one step ahead of your tod­dler all the time • Pre­vent hunger and thirst • Of­fer her quiet time, an ex­tra hug or com­fort ob­ject such as a soft toy or a spe­cial blan­ket to help keep her grounded • En­sure she has a good night’s sleep
