Your toddler’s awake times are very different to those of a baby. Here’s a quick guide:

ONE TO TWO YEARS: three to four hours at a time TWO TO THREE YEARS: four to five hours at a time THREE TO FIVE YEARS: five to seven hours at a time You’ll notice your baby is overtired when she shows these signs: • Loss of eye contact • Whining and difficult behavior • Demanding a dummy or bottle to suck • Fidgeting • Nose picking, playing with nappy area • Tantrum throwing • Biting or pushing other children When this happens you should: • Get to know your child’s unique personalit­y • Have predictabi­lity and routine to your day – try to be one step ahead of your toddler all the time • Prevent hunger and thirst • Offer her quiet time, an extra hug or comfort object such as a soft toy or a special blanket to help keep her grounded • Ensure she has a good night’s sleep
