HOORAY! THOKO Niki Daly R120 This is the first book in the Thoko series, and consists of four easyto-read stories, each teaching life lessons and giving a lovely message for everyone reading them. Thoko is a witty, hard-working, creative and determined little schoolgirl with a heart of gold. She lives with her gogo and mom, who often have to be patient with Thoko and her demands! The stories highlight their understanding and generous hearts for their special daughter. TUG OF WAR Naomi Howarth R130 Behold the tortoise! This cheerful and heart-warming story captures the essence of these brainy and wonderful creatures. When Elephant and Hippo are nasty to Tortoise, believing they are the rulers of the jungle since they are much bigger and stronger than the rest, Tortoise, being the challenger that he is, decides to teach them a lesson. And, boy oh boy, are they in for it! With the beautiful illustrations of the jungle, with its bold and luscious leaves, masses of water and colourful birdlife and butterflies, one can’t help but admire our planet, and be taken on a journey of bravery and friendship in this story. LITTLE BEAR Kate Oosthuizen R80 An adorably written book of rhymes, this story will drift kids away into a delightful and dreamy doze. It’s a story of a little bear who lives in a box, high up on a shelf of a toy store. One cold day, the wind blows and little bear tumbles down, landing on the floor next to a hole, which he decides to peer into. There, he makes friends in this magical and playful world. A happy ending emerges for little bear from that day on. THIS IS THE CHICK Wendy Hartmann R120 This entertaining book could top your little one’s list of favourites. It all starts on one peaceful, early morning with a small fluffy guinea fowl chick who hatches, and lets out an ear-piercing “cheep”! There is suddenly pandemonium, as all the animals in the bush wake up to this noise that has frightened them all, causing them to go on a rampage together, away from an imaginary monster. With striking illustrations of these characters, and wise old owl’s humongous eyes, your children will be amused throughout.
