All about Coco Chanel
Limpopo beauty queen Kathryn Barwise is a self-professed DIY queen too! When the time came to celebrate her baby shower, she took matters into her own hands and planned a beautiful pink and gold Coco Chanel theme for her baby girl
TABLE SEATING ››
The tables were draped with striped black and white tablecloths. Pink and gold touches were introduced through pink rose and carnation centrepieces, gold under-plates, the bunting and name banner.
The party was hosted in Kathryn’s garden, saving on venue hire costs. Guests enjoyed savoury platters and sweet snacks.
Kathryn designed the banner reading “Baby Kiley” at the dessert table. She cut the cardboard frames and pasted them to a pink ribbon using a hot glue gun. She then cut out the gold foil vinyl letters and the white cardboard borders. Kathryn cut the Coco Chanel logo from gold vinyl and pasted them onto the onesie cardboard frames.

A pink ribbon was tied around every napkin with a gold Coco Chanel sticker attached. Guests loved nibbling on the cookies made in the shape of onesies, and had fun with the baby rattles placed at every setting.
‹‹ PARTY FAVOURS
Tiny milk bottles filled with sweets were the party favours for guests to take home. Coco Chanel labels were stuck to the square flower vases, draped in pearl strings and filled with flowers.
Kathryn baked the cupcakes herself, and had a baking shop print edible Coco Chanel logos reading “Chanel Baby”. The cupcakes were dusted with glitter, and extra gold Chanel logos and labels were pasted around tooth picks to create cupcake toppers.
The unicorn cake was a gift from Kathryn’s sister. Baby Kiley’s nursery has a princess and unicorn theme. Other pink candy put the finishing touches to a beautiful candy table.
‹‹ THE MOM TO BE
Kathryn is a glowing mother-to-be who just had to be involved with planning her own baby shower. She had the shower when she was 30 weeks pregnant. She believes in doing things herself so that she can create the picture she envisions.
Chanel No 5 is Kathryn’s favourite perfume, and was the inspiration for the Coco Chanel theme for her baby shower. “Her name means graceful and beautiful. What better way to showcase that than with a light pink and gold Coco Chanel theme.”
Kathryn’s guests showered her little princess with gifts. Kathryn designed and printed a Chanel pillow using glitter heat transfer material. She bought a plain white cover and ironed it on.
The guests had fun playing various games. Other décor included photo frames that were filled with beautiful Coco Chanel imagery.
Kathryn owns a beauty school in Limpopo called Limpopo Beauty Modelling Academy. She designed her own sash as she often makes sashes for pageants. YB
