Let’s blow bubbles
Make it at home with some cupboard ingredients, and have fun chasing the foam around the garden
PRETTY BUBBLES
1 cup water 2 tablespoons of glycerine 4 tablespoons of dishwashing liquid
Mix it all together very slowly and gently so that it doesn’t foam.
✱ GIANT BUBBLES
6 cups water ½ cup corn starch ½ cup dishwashing liquid 1 tablespoon baking powder 1 tablespoon glycerine
Pour the water into a shallow bowl. Let the corn starch dissolve in it. Gently stir the other ingredients into the mix. Guard against making it foam. Let the mix rest for an hour, and then very gently stir it again. Don’t worry if a bit of corn starch stays stuck on the bottom of the bowl. This mix is great for blowing really huge bubbles.
TIPS
› You can buy glycerine at chemists or big supermarkets, usually in the baby aisle. › Add a drop or two of food colouring to your bubble mix.
› A small bottle of bubbles can be a great party-pack gift.
› BEWARE: If you blow bubbles indoors, they can make the floor very slippery.
