The more I deal with pregnant women, the more I realise how blessed I am to be a part of a woman’s life during this special time. I marvel at the power of women – I love to see the different parts of their newly discovered selves emerging as they draw closer to the biggest event of their lives – an event that will change them forever. Some of us stumble blindly into motherhood; some of us approach with great caution, and others with enormous fear and anxiety. Will we ever be “good enough” to be somebody’s mother? How will our lives change, and what if we don’t like the change? How will we cope with labour and birth, and what about breastfeeding? All this and more go through our minds as we search for answers and the truth. Every woman, every pregnancy and every birth is different. Each one of us will experience this day in our own special way. This day is far too important to be left solely in the hands of others. You need to be involved in the many decisions that have to be made, but you can only do this if you are informed and prepared. Your Pregnancy magazine delights in assisting you in gathering information during your pregnancy, and we urge you to question your caregivers and to make your wishes and desires known to those who are going to care for you.
