WILL MISCARRIAGE AFFECT THIS PREGNANCY?

-

Q:I am 17 weeks pregnant with my first baby and before this I had a miscarriage when I was only a month pregnant. After two months of periods, I fell pregnant again. The problem is that I never went to see a doctor after the miscarriage and I’m planning to go for my first ultrasound now, but I am worried that I will get bad news. Could the miscarriage have affected my baby in any way?

A:Tina says: Believe it or not, many women miscarry their first pregnancy – most of us don’t even realise this! You lost the pregnancy very early on the first time, and this time, according to you, you are already 17 weeks along. If you have had no bleeding, and have experienced some of the signs of pregnancy (tender breasts, nausea, and frequent trips to the toilet) then I am sure your pregnancy is intact and all is well. Don’t stress as this can do more harm than good. Look forward to seeing your baby at the first ultrasound, and you will be reassured that all is well.
