STORAGE DURATION
It’s essential to store pumped milk properly to maximise its nutritional and anti-infective qualities. Here are some storage guidelines:
Countertop Room temperature (up to 25°C) for six to eight hours. Containers should be covered, and kept under a cool towel.
Insulated cooler bag Can last up to 24 hours. Keep ice packs in contact with milk containers at all times, limit opening cooler bag.
Refrigerator 4°C for five days. Store in the back of the main body of the refrigerator.
Freezer Store toward the back of the freezer – temperature is constant. Freezer compartment of refrigerator: 15°C for two weeks. Freezer compartment of refrigerator with doors: 18°C for three to six months. Chest or upright deep freezer: 20°C for six to 12 months.
Defrosted milk It can be used for up to 24 hours. To defrost, place in the fridge overnight. Stand in warm to hot water – not boiling.
