Sun’s out!

-

“May I introduce Zoë Smith, seated on the right. Zoë is the powerhouse in charge of our advertising and marketing and has been with us for 15 years. If you’re a regular participant in all our competitions in the magazine and on social media, you’ll already know her. Zoë is also a great mom (I often ask her advice), an enthusiastic biker and a woman who lives her faith. And I’ve never met anyone who can keep the puns flowing as fast as Zoë can, always with a twinkle in her eye.” - Helen Schöer, editor (left)

Do you feel it too? That sense of lightness in the air and in life when the sun starts rising earlier and you can begin to leave your jacket at home and pack away all the extra blankies that have been piling up on the couch?

Boots and slippers get shoved to the back of the cupboard, and you can get your favourite sandals and sunnies out again. Lovely!

If you’re sporting a bump this summer, turn to page 46 immediately to see the cute cossies that are in the shops now.

If this is baby’s first summer, we’ve got the best sun care advice. Wonderful as it is to spend time outdoors, you really need to care for that precious skin. Start by reading our newborn skin care special on page 84 and get more healthy summer tips on page 42. Sunscreens have come a long way over the years, and we’ve done a roundup of the best ones, for adults and babies, on page 44.

Health is of course one of our pillars here at YPB magazine. Sorry to throw a cliché at you, but prevention really is better than cure. If you’re not in the habit of doing regular breast checks, we hope that the article on page 34 will inspire you to start. This is important – even during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

As we head outdoors again, another thing to keep in mind is water safety. Do everything you can to prevent drowning. Ask yourself how safe your pool really is. Maybe there is a mobile baby in the family now who wasn’t there last year, so you need to relook the preventative measures you have in place to keep your little one safe? While you’re at it, also pay attention to our poison safety article on page 102.

But safety isn’t your only job as a parent. Give yourself permission to relax a little – you don’t have to be perfect. In fact, your slip-ups can teach your child a lot about life. Don’t believe us? Let the article on page 112 convince you.

Prioritise fun and games and laughter, and your child will thrive. Let me throw another cliché at you: laughter is the best medicine!

This issue is full of ideas and inspiration to keep you smiling until Christmas, when we’ll spoil you with more. Hugs!
