Your Pregnancy

TO BEAT CONSTIPATION

-

The actions of your intestine slow right down during pregnancy, because hormones make it relax and work less efficiently. Eat lots of fruit, vegetables and fibre and get enough exercise. Eating carbohydrate-rich foods such as bread, cereals and potatoes also helps.

FOOD TIPS

■ Eat wholegrain cereals such as Weet-bix, muesli or porridge. Try to have one or two bowel movements a day.

■ Fruit and vegetables on their own are less effective than cereals at treating constipation.

■ Drink at least eight to ten cups of water a day.
