Your Pregnancy

3 MONTHS AND OLDER

-

Now that your baby is a little older, you can use more over-the-counter medicines and remedies at home, but don’t be shy to discuss these with your pharmacist or doctor. As your baby begins to move more, the chance of little accidents increases. Your first aid kit will have to be expanded to include the following: PAIN AND FEVER MEDICATION.

Now your baby can use Calpol syrup and Empaped suppositories. A painkiller with antiinflammatory properties is Nurofen, which contains a little ibuprofen, and this can be used from six months of age. Remember that the concentration of active ingredients can be very different between brands, so always read the pamphlet thoroughly, so that you don’t overdose your baby.

ANTISEPTIC OINTMENT. Add something like Germolene, Betadine or Polysporin to your kit, for those inevitable cuts and scrapes.

STUFFY NOSE. You can use Bennett’s Eazi Breathe Kit now.

COUGHING. Prospan is still a good option.

TEETHING. Let your child chew on a clean, cool facecloth. For more serious relief, try Teejel or Pansoral.

DIARRHOEA. Make sure you have some Smecta in the chest as well as ProbiFlora and Reuterina. To prevent dehydration, keep some Rehidrat handy. NAUSEA AND CAR SICKNESS.

Try Sister Lilian’s NausiCare. CONSTIPATION. A paediatric glycerine suppository is like a magic bullet. Also try prune juice. BITES AND STINGS. Calamine lotion is very soothing for these, and all skin irritations. BRUISES, INFLAMMATION AND MUSCULAR PAIN. Arnica ointments can be used from 6 months. BURNS. Always have Burnshield in the house, and make sure that it hasn’t expired.
