COMPLICATIONS ARE RARE

-

All medical procedures are not without risk, but thankfully complications are rare. It may occasionally happen that the stitch leaves a scar (like any cut does) in the cervix, and this may stop the cervix from dilating during labour, and you may not be able to have a natural birth.

If you’re going to a private hospital, you need to get authorisation from your medical aid. If you’re going to a government hospital, you may be referred to a bigger academic training hospital or have to wait until a doctor and theatre is available. This emphasises the importance of early and regular ante-natal care. Don’t wait until you feel your baby move for the first time before going to the clinic, as this could put your baby at risk if there are underlying problems you don’t know about.
