PROTECT YOUR CHILD
HIDDEN DANGER
Did you know that batteries can cause devastating injuries? Swallowed batteries can burn through a child’s oesophagus in just two hours, leading to surgery, months with feeding and breathing tubes, and even death. Those tiny batteries the size of a 20c coin are the worst. Make sure that battery compartments are properly secured, and keep loose batteries away from children. The first sign that your child might have swallowed a battery is vomiting blood. Go to the nearest emergency room immediately, also if the battery is stuck in the nose or ear. Don’t delay, and don’t give your child anything to eat or drink. Remember, batteries are everywhere. Check remote controls, garage door openers, bathroom scales, toys, cameras, watches, calculators, digital thermometers, hearing aids, singing greeting cards, talking books, portable radios, cell phones, flash and pen lights, flashing shoes and keychains.
