BONUS TIPS

-

■ Wind your baby, and change her nappy before you offer the other breast.

■ To wind your baby: support her trunk with one hand, and rub her back firmly with the other. Pat and rub, rub and pat. Gently lift your baby under her arms and slowly put her over your left shoulder. This movement straightens the stomach and releases the air bubble into the food pipe. When she leans over your shoulder, the wind will automatically come up.

■ Your baby will not feed long at the second breast. When she falls asleep, there is no need to wind her.

■ Prevent or treat cracked nipples by:

• Making sure your baby latches correctly

• Using a nipple cream after feeding

• Not pulling your baby off your breast

• Airing your nipples after feeding and keeping them dry between feeds.
