Always keep a scarf or shawl in your nappy bag. It is lightweigh­t and can be used to cover up when breastfeed­ing or cover the pram when baby is sleeping. You could also put it in the car window if the sun is beating in on the seat, or whip it out if the air suddenly goes chilly. LIZELLE BASSON

For instant air conditioni­ng on hot summer days in your car, wet a cloth nappy, wring it out, and hang it in your car window. It protects your baby from the sun and cools the air.

I love spending time with my baby outside in the garden, in a well-shaded area. I tie pieces of brightly coloured ribbon on the branches of the tree. My baby loves watching the leaves and ribbon moving in the breeze. NINA SNYMAN

I make sure that before I leave for work and face hectic traffic, I have at least three dummies on the passenger seat, so that when my 9-month old spits (or throws) her dummy aside, I can easily pop another into her mouth and not have to stress about finding the missing dummy! AMALIA KHATRI
