Veggie combos
Once your baby has mastered eating puree from a spoon, you can start mixing things up a little by combining all kinds of vegetables for extra taste sensations.
Orange vegetable meal
YIELDS ABOUT 500ML OF VEGETABLES
INGREDIENTS
• 1 carrot, peeled and cubed
• 500ml (2 c) potatoes, peeled and diced
• 250ml (1 c) butternut or pumpkin, peeled and diced
• 200ml water
COOKING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Simmer all the vegetables together in the water for 5–8 minutes until they are cooked through, or you can steam all the vegetables together, for about 20 minutes, until they are cooked through.
2. Mash with the blender until completely smooth. Add more water if necessary.
Gree nv egetable meal
YIELDS ABOUT 300ML OF VEGETABLES
INGREDIENTS
• 3 courgettes
• 3 patty pans
• 125ml (1/2 c) frozen peas
• 60ml (1/4 c) water
• A handful of baby spinach leaves
COOKING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Wash the courgettes and patty pans well and cut into small pieces, almost as big as the peas.
2. Simmer all the vegetables, except the spinach, in the water for about 5 minutes or until completely tender.
3. Wash the spinach leaves thoroughly, add to the vegetables and let it simmer for another 30 seconds to 1 minute.
4. Mash with a blender until a completely smooth pulp is formed. Add more water if necessary.
Potato a ndv eg dish
YIELDS ABOUT 400ML OF VEGETABLES
INGREDIENTS
• 2 courgettes, washed and chopped
• 2 patty pans, washed and chopped
• 1 potato, peeled and cubed
• 100ml water, or more if necessary
COOKING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Let all the vegetables simmer for 5–8 minutes until they are cooked.
2. Process with a blender until completely smooth. Add water if necessary, to get the desired consistency.
Carrot and cauliflower puree
YIELDS 250ML OF PUREE
INGREDIENTS
• 1 large carrot, peeled and diced
• 75ml water
• 200 g cauliflower, broken into florets
COOKING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Place the carrot and water in a saucepan and bring to the boil. Lower the heat and simmer for 15 minutes until the carrots are soft. Remove them from the saucepan.
2. Place the cauliflower in the saucepan and boil for 7 minutes until soft. Add more water if necessary.
3. Let cool down a bit and puree the carrot and cauliflower together with your stick blender. Serve a portion of puree to your baby and freeze the rest for later.
Bab yv egetables
YIELDS ABOUT 250ML
INGREDIENTS
• 5ml (1t) olive oil
• 1 large carrot, peeled and cubed
• 1 potato, peeled and cubed
• 30ml (2T) frozen pea-and-mealie-mix
• 60ml (¼ c) water
COOKING INSTRUCTIONS
1. Heat the oil in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the carrot and fry until tender. Add the potato, peas and mealies, as well as the water and stir.
2. Bring to a boil, lower the heat and simmer for about 15 minutes.
3. Mash with a blender until smooth.
4. Add a little boiling water or some of your baby’s milk if it is too thick. ●
