CARE AFTER CIRCUMCISION

Keep the circumcised area as clean and dry as possible to avoid infection.

1 The circumcised penis may appear swollen for a few days and bleed for 24 hours after the procedure. Change the nappy often to avoid infection.

2 Gently clean the area with cotton wool soaked in cooled, boiled water. Don’t use soap, wet wipes, powder or lotions until it has healed.

3 Apply petroleum jelly or an antibacterial ointment to the penis for a few days.

Call a doctor if there is increased bleeding, the tip of the penis appears blue or black, or if an unpleasant-smelling discharge appears.
