LOOK AT THAT BODY I work out!

Liz Senior, occupational therapist and founder of Clamber Club (clamberclub.com), says that back and tummy lying, as well as side lying, all play an important role in the development of head control. “Laying Baby on his tummy develops the strength of the back muscles and core stability. Lying on his back encourages your baby to use his back and neck muscles, and lifting his feet to play with them strengthens the tummy muscles.” Work those little muscles further with these fun exercises:

• Sit on the floor with your legs outstretched. Prop your baby (on his tummy) over your leg, so that he can lift his head to see the world around him.

• Lie your baby on his back on a bed, and move a toy around in front of him, encouraging him to follow it with his eyes. He will move his head in order to see the toy.

• Hold your baby in your arms facing you, and sway him from side to side, encouraging him to lift his head up to watch you.
