We asked on Facebook “What is your child’s second name, and what was the reason you chose it?”

SIYETHABA ZIBULA (25) from Appelsbosch, Ozwatini, KwaZuluNatal, says this: “Zozikode. Her father named her. It’s his family clan name. It means “Izintombi Zozikode” – girls at the distant fireplace. Zozikode is now 3 months old”.

ROSINA MOREROA (22) lives in Polokwane, Limpopo. Her child’s second name is Amogelang, which means acceptance. Rosina says she fell pregnant at a young age and her parents were so disappointed, but they ended up accepting.

“My daughter’s full name is Isla Gem Deck,” says LINDI DECK (35) from Parklands, Cape Town, Western Cape. “Her second name is after my late mom’s initials: G.E.M. She never got to meet her, but I wanted her to have a little part of her nana.”
