TAKING CHARGE
As adults, we have learnt how to regulate our own states of consciousness – we don’t start crying when things don’t go our way, and we can fall asleep without someone singing a lullaby to us. Because your baby is still so small, he needs to be taught to self-regulate his states of being as adults can. The only way this happens is with time and from your understanding of your baby’s states and how to deal with them. By removing him from any stimulation in a crying or active alert state and providing him with ways to self-soothe, you are providing him with tools with which to learn how to self-regulate. ●
