CHILDREN ARE OUR TEACHERS

-

Five pregnancies, four children, three premature babies, one full-term baby, four rounds of postpartum depression, and a personality disorder diagnosis. It’s been both a blessing and a challenge to be a mother. Here are a few things I’ve learnt as a mom, a wife and a student.

1 Even when your brain tells you there isn’t, there is hope.

2 Even in the darkest of times, happiness can be discovered if one remembers to turn on the light.

3 There is no one-size-fits-all approach to parenting. You don’t have to know all of the answers.

4 It’s fine not to be perfect. It’s also fine to show your family.

There were days when I wanted to run away, when I cried in a corner, when I doubted myself and my decisions, when I beat myself up, and when I felt like a failure. Yet, there were days when I felt strong, like a superhero, patted myself on the back, and felt ready to get out of bed and take on the world. Nobody ever said that being a jack of all trades was easy. If parenthood came with a guidebook, it would be a piece of cake. It would be boring if there were no challenges.

Our children are the best teachers! And it is here that we obtain our knowledge and evolve as individuals.
