Troubleshooting

-

Despite your best efforts at providing a solid routine and cosy sleep environment, your baby or toddler may still need a little extra help to fall asleep.

■ Set limits on television time, especially before bed.

■ Provide an older baby with warm, bottled milk or some porridge before bedtime.

■ Baby massage is very useful. Use lavender-scented oil to promote relaxation and sleepiness.

■ Low lighting and soothing singing work wonders.

■ Rescue Remedy is safe for both you and your baby or toddler.

■ Medication is not a safe, long-term solution for sleep problems and will not help to cure bad sleep habits.

■ Delay bedtime a little if it is clear that your baby or toddler simply is not tired.

■ If you have tried everything and are at your wits’ end, consider seeking professional help. Your doctor or caregiver can provide you with more information and you may benefit from a session with a sleep therapist. ●
