Low scoring affair at Mick Kelly

MIDDLEBURG Primary School sneaked in a 5-0 victory in slippery conditions over Empangeni Preparatory School in an U13 rugby match played at Mick Kelly Park on Thursday.

The visitors managed to eventually find a gap in the local team’s solid defence late in the first half.

The only try of the game came from a penalty tap five metres out that saw the visiting prop forward crash over.

Empangeni Prep bounced back in the second half and camped in their opponents’ half and were unlucky not to capitalise from majority possession.

Handling errors in the wet and slippery conditions ended up costing Empangeni Prep.

But the coaching staff of Empangeni was nevertheless pleased with their side’s performance on the day.

It was their first match of the season and the lads showcased huge commitment and showed that if they worked on certain areas of their game, they will be a force to be reckoned with.
