Young Zululand karatekas make provincial team

NINE Hluhluwe JKA Karate

Dojo students were selected to represent KZN at the South African JKA National Championsh­ips at the Standard Bank Arena in Johannesbu­rg in May.

This after the impressive medal haul the club achieved at the Northern KZN JKA Championsh­ips in Newcastle where more than 400 karatekas were in action.

In the U10 boys category Declan Davies (green belt) scooped two gold medals and PJ Pengilly (yellow belt) two silver medals.

Aphile Makamo (blue belt) bagged two silver medals, with Cody Spencer (purple belt) earning two bronze medals in the boys U11 category.

The U13 girls section saw Zana Spencer (green belt) receive gold for kata and kumite, with Fiona Mgomezulu (green belt) taking home silver in the girls U15 section.

Tristan Goddard (orange belt) and Tristan Davies (brown belt) both scooped gold in the boys U13 section for kata and kumite.

Dojo Sensei Warren McCall (black belt) claimed second place in the men’s veteran division

(age 40-49) for kata and gold for kumite.

The club trains on a Monday and Thursday from 5pm to 6pm for beginners and 6pm to 7pm for colour belts and senior brown and black belts at the Hluhluwe Rugby Club.
