Search con­tin­ues for miss­ing air­craft

THE search for a light air­craft and its pilot who went miss­ing off the coast of St Lu­cia bore no re­sults at the week­end.

The air­craft, with the call sign ZU-PCB, left New­cas­tle on Wed­nes­day night and was sched­uled to land in St Lu­cia the same night.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice, the plane is be­lieved to have lost al­ti­tude over the sea north of Mbazwana.

On Fri­day, Em­pan­geni and Port Shep­stone Search and Res­cue units were de­ployed to the Sod­wana Bay area to con­duct a search op­er­a­tion.

On Satur­day a mil­i­tary chop­per as well as three ves­sels con­tin­ued with search op­er­a­tions, but to no avail.

A beach pa­trol was sched­uled for yes­ter­day (Sun­day), after which a de­ci­sion will be taken whether a search will con­tinue.
