Insults fly at Bay mall parking bay
RICHARDS Bay police are investigating a case of malicious damage to property, crimen injuria and defamation of character following an argument at a city shopping mall on Wednesday.
Mfanafuthi Zulu (40) alleges he was trying to park his vehicle at the mall’s parking lot when a man emerged from his vehicle and insulted him in full view of shoppers.
‘I have never been insulted like that in my entire life. This man wanted me to reverse, but there was a car behind me. He jumped out of his car and insulted me for no reason. He also banged the bonnet of my car, causing some damage,’ said Zulu.
Zulu said the man drove away, but he took photos of the car’s registration number.
‘A few seconds later the man returned, said he was not racist but at the same time wanted to beat me. Luckily people who were around stopped him.’
Zulu said he then went to the local police station to report the matter, but received a cool reception from the Acting Station Commander.
‘Because of the nature of the case, I thought it would be good for me to report the matter to the Station Commander, but he turned me down and referred me to the charge office.
‘I was shocked when I saw him assisting the suspect laying a charge against me. He even sent a police officer to collect my docket at the charge office, but other officers refused to hand it over. I have witnesses of that,’ Zulu said.
He said he has reported the matter to the Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, as he wants to make sure that all people are treated equally.
Provincial police spokesperson, LieutenantColonel Thulani Zwane, said the charges are being investigated.
He advised Zulu to approach the Police Cluster Commander if he was not happy with the service he received at the police station
