Airline has its eye on the sky

- Laurie Smith

THE Zululand Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ZCCI) has released an update on the current status of the grounded SA Express Airways services from and to Richards Bay Airport.

In a report presented to the ZCCI and compiled by Acting CEO of South African Express Airways, Matsietsi Mokholo, she makes it clear that the airline is undertaking exercises to get its fleet back into the air.

Since the airline’s grounding on 24 May, she said a dedicated team has worked ‘steadfastly to ensure the speedy return of the airline to service,’ and added that the SA Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) has accepted the airline’s Corrective Action Plans (CAPs).

‘This was the first phase in addressing the concerns highlighted by the regulator during their audit, which ultimately resulted in the temporary suspension of the airline.

‘We can confirm that work has already begun on readying the aircraft to return to service.

‘The next phase of this process will be the verification of the airworthiness of aircraft,’ Mokholo said.

She confirmed that two teams have been put in place to handle the CAPs and the complete recovery of the airline.

‘These endeavours are being led by our newly appointed Board of Directors, the Ministerial Intervention Team and SA Express employees.’
