Revitalising old furniture

- Tamlyn Jolly

ZULULANDERS’ furniture will never look the same again after 50 attendees of Paint Centre Zululand’s recent chalk painting workshop learnt how to make dull items beautiful.

Five-time winners of the ZO Best of Zululand Readers’ Choice awards, Paint Centre Zululand recently began stocking O’Grady’s chalk paint and decided it best to teach people how to use the product.

‘We wanted to hold the workshop to give people the opportunity of discovering how creative they can be, even if they don’t think they are creative,’ said Lisa Louw, Paint Centre Zululand Marketing Manager.

‘It really was a great way for people to see just how easy-touse the paint is, and how quickly an item can be transformed into something beautiful.’

Each workshop attendee received a flower pot and a frame to paint.

O’Grady’s chalk paint comes in 24 colours and can be applied to anything, from an upholstered piece of furniture to steel, wood, plastic, wrapped doors, fabric and melamine.

With just a lick of paint, new life can be breathed into tired pieces of furniture and, believe it or not, yellow is especially popular on old ball-and-claw furniture from the 1930s.

The ladies who attended the workshop thoroughly enjoyed it and said they learned a lot.
