Ten best-selling bakkies in South Africa in July

- Val van der Walt

SA is bakkie country and these vehicles are many manufacturers’ bread and butter, so Autodealer likes to keep a close eye on this segment.

How did the bin-backs do in July?

Well, the Toyota vs Ford contest is still raging but lately the Hilux is beating the Ranger by substantial margins month after month.

With this contest, and the segment being so important, it would have been interesting to know which derivatives sell the most for the respective brand.

Do double cab buyers favour the Ford or the Toyota?

Which vehicle is the workhorse of choice for fleet owners?

With rental companies definitely playing a huge part when it comes to bakkie sales numbers, being able to see who buys what will be very compelling.

Also, with Mercedes-Benz having recently entered the bakkie market with the X-Class, it will be good if the brand can submit a figure for this newcomer, instead of just one overall figure for all its commercial vehicles.

In July the Mitsubishi Triton, Mazda BT50 and Fiat Fullback again failed to make the top ten list, with none of them able to pass the

40-unit mark.

The 10 best selling bakkies in July are:

1. Toyota Hilux – 3 373

2. Ford Ranger – 2 499

3. Nissan NP200 – 1 356

4. Nissan NP300/Hardbody – 1 218

5. Isuzu KB – 1 165

6. Volkswagen Amarok – 270

7. Toyota Land Cruiser Pick-up – 238

8. Mahindra Pik-Up – 236

9. GWM Steed – 153

10. Nissan Navara – 144
