1KZN TV board to decide fate of chair

Zululand Observer - Monday - - ZO NEWS - Orrin Singh

TODAY (Monday) marks D-day for the board of 1KZN TV to decide on the fate of its current chairperson, Dr Themba Fakazi. Last week the ZO revealed that Fakazi was accused of a number of serious allegations following an email which was sent out by employees at the community station. The email provided a glimpse into the financial crisis that the station is facing as well as a scathing attack on Fakazi who is alleged to have spent more that R8million of company funds for his personal use. On Thursday employees issued a follow-up email which indicated that should the board of 1KZN TV not resolve the issue within 24 hours, they would down tools. On Friday a senior staff member, who preferred to remain anonymous, said they had met with the board. ‘An executive management meeting has been set down for Monday in which the issue will be discussed and hopefully resolved amicably.’ The staff member noted that the general consensus was that if the issue surrounding Fakazi and the alleged misuse of funds was not resolved today, they would have no choice but to stop all work at the station with immediate effect. Fakazi previously told the ZO that the allegations against him were meant to tarnish his reputation and that they hold no weight until an internal investigation, initiated by the board, is carried out.
