Mom and children taken hostage
EMPANGENI police have launched a manhunt for four suspects following a home robbery in eNseleni in which a mother and her two children were taken hostage. According to King Cetshwayo Cluster Police spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, the incident occurred at 11:30pm on Thursday night at Jamela Reserve in eNseleni. ‘Hlengiwe Mgwaba (40) was at her residence preparing to sleep when four suspects kicked down her front door. ‘All of the suspects were armed with handguns and demanded money and the car keys for her two vehicles.’ Mdlalose said the perpetrators then ransacked the home before instructing Mgwaba and her two children to get into one of the vehicles. ‘They drove to an unknown location and dropped off the victim and her children. ‘One of the suspects was left behind to guard the victims while the other three fled in the victim’s two Range Rovers. ‘Police saw the two vehicles near Mkhuze and pursued them. ‘During the chase, one of the vehicles overturned. ‘The other vehicle was found abandoned not far away. ‘One of the suspects must have tipped off the man, who was guarding the victims because he left them in the forest and ran away. ‘The victims then proceeded to get help.’ Mdlalose said that while no arrests have yet been made, they are following strong leads which will hopefully result in the arrest of one of the suspects. ‘A case of house robbery has been opened and Empangeni SAPS are investigating,’ he said.
