LO­CAL po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing se­ri­ous al­le­ga­tions that the killing of 37-year-old Wise­man Hadebe, who was gunned down in a brazen hit in Ng­welezana last week, is gang re­lated Hadebe was shot out­side Emzini Wezin­sizwa Tav­ern, close to the Siz­a­bantu bus stop, by two sus­pects driv­ing a white Ford Ranger with a Dur­ban regis­tra­tion num­ber, He was gunned down as he was about to en­ter a com­pany ser­vice ve­hi­cle pick­ing him up for work. Al­le­ga­tions that Had­bebe, a train driver at Transnet Freight Rail for about 12 years, had been sup­ply­ing guns to a gang in the Mpem­beni area in eSikhaleni, sur­faced soon af­ter his mur­der. Re­ports in­di­cate that a re­cent shoot-out oc­curred be­tween two ri­val gangs in Mpem­beni, dur­ing which a num­ber of in­di­vid­u­als were in­jured and hos­pi­talised. Ru­mours spread­ing like wild­fire among the com­mu­nity sug­gested that Hadebe’s arms deal­ings with one of the gangs prompted the ri­val gang to ‘take him out’.
