Police arrest city wife for husband’s murder
THE wife of a 51-year-old Ngwelezana father who was shot and killed in his home during what appeared to be a robbery, has been arrested in connection with his murder. Zibuyisile Mkhize (39) was arrested last Saturday together with her brother, Lindokuhle Khumalo (35). According to police, the two are believed to have planned the murder of Senzosakhe Mkhize, who was shot four times at his home in Ngwelezana B section in August. The ZO previously reported that Mr Mkhize had arrived home at about 10pm on 2 August. His daughter came out and opened the gate and garage for him before going back into the house. When Mhkize drove into his garage, he was accosted by two suspects and shot four times. The suspects then went into the house and held up the family members, stealing three cellphones and the victim’s Mazda 3 Sport in which they fled the scene. According to King Cetshwayo Cluster Police spokesperson, Captain Mbongeni Mdlalose, Empangeni detectives worked tirelessly on the case before linking Mkhize’s murder to his wife and her brother. The two face murder and robbery charges. They appeared in the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court last week and are scheduled to appear in court again this morning (Monday) for formal bail applications. ‘We want to warn criminals who feel that they can out-think our team of detectives, that they do not stand a chance against the police,’ Captain Mdlalose said. ‘If you plan a murder, stage a hijacking or are involved in fraudulent activities around insurance claims, we will investigate each case on its own merit and arrest those who think they can outsmart the police,’ he said.
