Boy drowns off Naval Island
IN yet another early season drowning, a 16-year-old boy lost his life off Naval Island on Saturday. The victim was reported missing at about 3.30pm while swimming off the beach near the commercial slipway. NSRI Station 19 members and SAPS divers responded and the submerged body was found after a one-hour search. The patient was declared dead on scene. The area where the drowning occurred is one of many in Richards Bay where knee-deep water suddenly drops to great depths and non-swimmers, unable to stand, find themselves in trouble.
