THE dog which scratched a child from the Port Durnford area, was confirmed positive for rabies on Thursday. The child is receiving a course of four preventative injections. Results of a further two suspected cases in the Port Durnford area are still awaited. These relate to two puppies which showed signs of rabies in the Khandisa area. This cases are about 7km apart as the crow flies. Rabid animals often salivate on their paws, leaving plenty of rabies virus on the claws which can then be transferred by a scratch.
