POLICE, security companies and the Richards Bay Community Policing Forum (CPF) last week joined forces to intensify their fight against crime in the city.

The law enforcement teams conducted an operation with the aim of reducing criminal activity.

A Richards Bay security company branch manager, Rian Buys, said they worked closely with all relevant role players, and have regular meetings and joint operations with Richards Bay and Empangeni authorities and community security entities.

‘We have realised the importance of working together and regularly share information regarding crime trends, events and areas of concern.

‘We take the concerns received from our customers and community members and share these with the relevant role players,’ he said.

‘In the latest operation we searched vehicles on the main roads and, among others, checked for motorists driving under the influence of alcohol and those carrying illegal firearms.

‘These random searches is a key element in curbing crime and act as a proactive measure in stopping criminals from entering certain areas.

‘We can confirm that the stop-andsearch operation was a great success, with exceptional professionalism shown by all parties.

‘We also took part in a joint patrol through the area to enhance security presence,’ Buys said.

He added that the Empangeni CPF played a significant role in promoting safety in neighbourhoods, and were usually involved with patrolling their suburbs, conducting regular crime-related meetings and implementing strategies to address crime concerns.

‘Local security companies assist with community-based security solutions, where technological elements such as community CCTV and licence plate recognition cameras play a key role in reducing crime.
