South32 empowers the disabled
DISABLED people are being equipped with a wealth of knowledge in a variety of subjects thanks to a South32’s learnership programme.
Modules include communication in which they learn to maintain and adapt oral communication, access and use information from texts, write for a defined context and respond to literary texts.
In the mathematical literacy module, students are taught to demonstrate an understanding of rational and irrational numbers, measures, estimates and calculate physical quantities, solve problems by working with a range of patterns and functions, and use mathematics to investigate the financial aspects of personal and community life.
Other modules include information technology, in which thy are taught how to operate a personal computer system; an office environment where they learn, among others, to process numerical and text data; professionalism in the workplace where they are taught to operate in a team, receive and execute instructions, behave in a professional manner, and process incoming and outgoing telephone calls; and a business environment module which teaches programme attendees to investigate the structure of an organisation, demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of HIV/Aids in the workplace, and to maintain effective working relationships with other members of staff.
