Good rewards for those not on the freak-out bus

- Richard Springorum

ONE thing the coronovirus has not yet impacted negatively on is the explosive fishing action along the north coast shoreline over the past week.

For the guys who have not jumped on the freak-out bus and self quarantined, but instead made their way down to the waters, rewards have been good.

Boat anglers have caught some good sized couta at the Westbrook (Stud Rock) area, which proved to be a real hot spot for these fish.

Unfortunately though, huge sharks have been taxing the anglers, resulting in some hard fights ending with empty hatches.

The secret for these species has been a down-rigged live bait with at least a 4oz sinker.

This can be done by means of an elastic band wrapped around the line.

If live bait is not an option, then do not waste a trip floundering around the backline.

The rock and surf fraternity have been rewarded with king fish on both artificial lures and live bait.

Throwing out a live bonefish or wave garrick in a rip is the best method to target these fish.

Some advice is to rig the bait with either a single J-hook or circle.

Areas further south, such as Tugela, have been producing some awesome inedible and edible action over the past week.

Kob has been on top of the edible menu, with zambies topping the inedible list.

Ensure all tackle is up to standard to reduce disappointment.
