Carlden Fourie is keen on pursuing a career in finance
THROUGH hard work and dedication, Carlden Fourie has earned himself a bursary from
South32 Hillside
Aluminium, enabling him to pursue his dream of a career in finance.
Fourie, who is currently enrolled in a
BCom Risk
Management
Degree at
North-West
University (NWU), said he looks forward to one day trading in currency.
‘South32 did not spare any costs with this bursary,’ said the grateful recipient. ‘I was also fortunate to be given a laptop to perform my studies successfully.’
Despite childhood dreams of becoming a professional rugby player or president, Fourie eventually settled on the financial sector for his future.
‘I chose this field as I would like to mitigate financial risks and advise on proper projection, possible performance results, and how to be a sustainable organisation financially,’ he explained. ‘This direction will enable me to make the right business and personal decisions.’
Fourie said he is inspired by ‘Rich
Dad, Poor Dad’ author, Robert T Kiyosaki, who advocates the importance of financial literacy, financial independence and building wealth.
‘Closer to home, my inspiration is definitely my mother,’ said Fourie. ‘She is the most loyal and hard-working person that I know. She is a great example and cornerstone in life when I seek an open and honest discussion.’ His future ambitions are to graduate and gain experience at Hillside. Imparting insight to bursary hopefuls, he said: ‘You need to ensure you achieve good results in your chosen subjects. Very important subjects are languages, maths and science for a bursary in the field I have chosen.’ To submit applications for the Dr Xolani Mkhwanazi South32 Bursary Scheme for 2021 visit www. careerwise.co.za/applications/
