Service delivery focus

- Gugu Myeni

A WATER tanker donated by Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) was officially handed over to the King Cetshwayo District Municipality (KCDM) on

Friday.

The tanker was received by Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula who has been deployed as the national champion for the King Cetshwayo District Development Model (DDM).

The DDM is a national initiative to fast-track service delivery to communities through a ‘One Plan’, which brings together all spheres of government.

This model was launched in King Cetshwayo last year by provincial champion for the district, MEC Bongi-Sithole Moloi.

'The DDM serves to ensure co-operation where our views on planning and budgeting are in sync across the three spheres of government.

‘As national district champion deployed to King Cetshwayo, I am committed to working with you tirelessly toward achieving the KCDM model.

‘My deployment is not meant to dictate the DDM agenda, but to give practical expression to the constitutional imperative of co-operative governance.

‘We must work together as the different spheres of government to make the vision of a better life for all, a living reality,’ said Mbalula.

During his visit, the minister, who was accompanied by local mayors and councillors, received progress reports on KCDM's One Plan development.

‘Our collective effort must, without fail, produce a holistic and well thought out One Plan for King Cetshwayo district.

‘This must result in service delivery that is prompt and improves the lives of our people in a meaningful way,’ he said.

Following engagements at the district municipality's council chambers, Mbalula also conducted on-site inspections of developmental projects for economic development and job creation at the Port of Richards Bay.
