Volunteers continue with impactful clean-up campaign

- Wellington Makwakwa

DESPITE many hurdles, including a lack of financial support and volunteers, the Adopt-a-Spot campaign continues to gain momentum, cleaning up the city one spot at a time.

Volunteers dedicated April to Ngwelezana, particularly the main entrance and the business hub, Ezitolo.

Last week, with the help of friends and other volunteers, the team managed to clean up more public spaces, including the area surrounding the Ngwelezana clinic.

This involved cleaning up rubble, clearing storm water drains and pathways, as well as cutting overgrown verges.

'The project is ongoing because there is still so much work to do,' said project founder, Mpendulo Mbulawa.

'Our aim is to also start painting buildings in the area. We hope for sponsorship to buy paint, brushes and other equipment.

'We have secured a sponsorship from Much Asphalt to provide us with tar to beautify a space for parking and other open areas. We also want to make sure there are ramps for wheelchair access, and the tarring will help us achieve that.'
