Dan’s fundraiser golf day a huge success

- Richard Springorum

LOCAL golfers came out swinging in their numbers in support of the Danielle van Onselen golf day, held at Felixton Golf Club last Saturday.

More than 100 golfers took to the course and followed an American Scramble format over nine holes.

The team of Willie Steyn, Sias Steyn, Mike Browne and Billy Strachan managed to clinch the day with their 28 points.

They were closely followed by second placed Morne’ Loubser, Matthew Richards and Mawethu Bodlani on 27 points.

Danielle van Onselen, a 21-yearold fourth-year LLB Law student at Potchefstroom, held the event to raise funds for eye surgery she requires after recently being diagnosed with Keraticonus.

This eye condition leads to loss of sight and, if left untreated, will result in a cornea transplant. Danielle must undergo two operations; the first taking place on 5 May at the Johannesburg Eye Hospital.

'This event was a great success and, as the Van Onselen family, we want to extend a huge thank you to all who came out in support of the event, and for the generosity of community members for assisting with Dan's condition,' said mom, Cecilia van Onselen.
