Former Miss Universe explores Zululand

- Gugu Myeni

Former Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi recently escaped Jo'burg city life to explore wildlife and nature at iSimangaliso Wetland Park.

The 27-year-old, who recently handed over her Miss Universe crown to her successor, took some down time away from the hustle and bustle to visit a place she describes as 'paradise on earth'.

'The weather in KZN has been fantastic. I got to relax and enjoy the breath-taking scenery on the game drives and was so close to cheetahs, rhinos and elephants,' she said.

Tunzi also sung praises about the scenery while on a boat cruise on Lake St Lucia.

Her trip comes as the KZN tourism sector repositions itself amid the Covid-19 pandemic which has affected traveller numbers.

Acting CEO of Tourism KZN, Phindile Makwakwa said, 'We were thrilled when we heard one of South Africa's biggest exports, Zozibini Tunzi, had KZN on her bucket list as a travel destination and we were confident she would be enthralled by the beauty of iSimangaliso.

'We are proud of Makakatana Bay Lodge for pulling out all the stops to make her stay memorable.

'We are looking forward to welcoming more travellers into KZN, for them to have their own experience of our beautiful province.'

CEO of iSimangaliso Wetland Park Sibusiso Bukhosini said one of the beauties of the park is that it gives visitors the best of both worlds; Africa's largest estuarine system, and the incredible wildlife and nature.

'The 332 000 hectare park offers its visitors a fun-packed day including activities such as an afternoon game drive riding alongside rhinos, cheetahs, elephants, hippos and so many more animals.

'For people who want to relax and enjoy picnics with their families, the park's popular beach destinations are found at Cape

Vidal and Missions Rocks,' said Bukhosini.
