- Wellington Makwakwa

WITH drug and substance abuse a growing epidemic in Zululand, eSikhaleni youth on Wednesday led a community march to create awareness.

Led by the Assembly of God, the march was part of the National Youth

Day commemoration programme aimed at encouraging young people to fight the scourge of substance abuse.

The awareness programme started with an education session at eSikhaleni Mall where local social worker Nokwazi Mbatha shared information about various substances.

During her presentation, she unpacked facts about various drugs, their effects and consequences, and how people can get help.

During the first session, residents, congregants and various youth organisations led a massive prayer session to implore divine intervention to fight the drug scourge affecting the youth.

‘Our young people have fallen into drugs and now is the time to use our faith more than before.

‘We need to work together to fight the epidemic with prayer and commitment to making our youth see the light,’ said Pastor SP Zulu.

After all formalities, the group conducted a peaceful march to create awareness throughout the township.
