New bowlers up their game

NOVICE bowlers honed their newly-learnt skills in the uMhlathuze Pharmacy Group Fun Business Winter Bowling League on Thursday evening at the Empangeni Country Club.

The league hosts 10 teams every Thursday from 5pm with the aim of introducing and growing the sport of bowls in the area. Teams compete in a random selection format over five rounds, competing in 12 ends following a twobowls trips format.

In addition to attracting new members, the league serves as a club fundraiser with all teams taking prizes, and the overall winner receiving the floating trophy at the end of round five.

The second round of the league was hotly contested, with a lot of banter on the greens.
