NRB fail to take their chances

- Dave Savides

FAILURE to make the most of numerous scoring opportunities, coupled with some outstanding saves by the opposition goalkeeper saw Richards

Bay FC slide to a narrow 2-1 defeat against Chippa United in the first PSL promotion game on Saturday.

Chippa looked vulnerable from set pieces but the NRB boys, who controlled the game, didn’t apply the finishing touches.

Conversely, Chippa made the most of their chances with Sandile Mthethwa (50th minute) and Sizwe Mdlinzo (82nd) netting before Siyabonga Vilane pulled one back shortly before the final whistle.

The absence of TV cameras also contributed to some dubious decisions in favour of the home side, while Richards Bay might have been denied a couple of penalty appeals.

As it stands, Chippa are due to play Royal AM on Tuesday, while Richards Bay are scheduled to travel to the Chatsworth Stadium to tackle Royal AM on Thursday before hosting Chippa at the uMhlathuze Stadium over the weekend.

That’s if Royal AM honour their commitments.
