Kia launches new Pegas compact sedan in SA

- Val van der Walt

KIA South Africa has launched an affordable new compact sedan, badged the 'Pegas'.

The Pegas sedan starts at a relatively low R225 995, and is primarily aimed at young families looking for a practical, comfortable car at an affordable price.

However, it should prove fairly enticing for the fleet and ride-hailing markets too. What does it have to offer?

There are three models to choose from, all running the Korean brand's tried-andtested 1.4-litre normally-aspirated petrol engine, as found in the Rio hatch, tuned to produce 69kW and 132Nm in this specific application.

This engine can be paired with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox - bringing it to three options.

The Pegas 1.4 LX Manual entry model's standard features include a 7.0inch touchscreen infotainment system with six speakers, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a reverse camera, automatic headlight activation, steering-mounted audio controls, electric windows (front and rear), dual front airbags, ABS, and ISOFIX child-seat anchors.

The Pegas 1.4 EX Manual, meanwhile, gains 14-inch alloys, front fog lights, chrome-coated door handles, leather-like seat upholstery, cruise control, leathercovered steering wheel, and height adjustment for the driver’s seat.

At the top of the three-model Pegas range is the Pegas 1.4 EX Auto with the same features as the hand-shifting model but, as the description indicates, automatic gear shifting.

The new Kia Pegas sedan is sold with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, as well as a four-year or 60 000km service plan.

Keep an eye out for Autodealer's drive review.
